Parents in mourning after young boy mauled by dog

Posted: Updated:

No anger and no hatred. That's how the parents of a toddler from Montgomery County feel tonight after their son was mauled to death by a pit bull.

The Gormanous family is obviously in mourning but wanted to thank each and every person who's shown support during this very difficult time and that's why they decided to speak out.

"We weren't ready to let him go," Greg Gormanous began to tell FOX 26 News about his little boy "Christian," fighting back tears.

The 4-year-old wanted to be a superhero and like any other young child was full of life.

"We know he's in our fathers hands and we know he's well taken care of and we know that we will see him again." Faith and family is how Greg and his wife Janelle are moving forward plus they both admit with four other small children they need to be strong. It's not always easy though considering all the reminders like flowers and bouquets that line the families backyard fence, the entrance to where Christian took his last steps.

"I got the call from Janelle saying that he was attacked by a dog and that I needed to hurry and get home. I told him to hang in there we loved him so much just to hang in there we would never expect to bury one of our children," recalled Gormanous.

Young Christian had apparently climbed a fence into the neighbor's yard where a pit bull was tied up, the four-year-old was bit several times on the neck-area before his 9-year-old sister saw what happened and managed to pull him out. Despite what happened though the calls the attack an accident and both agree they're not angry with anyone.

Both are just trying to be strong for their other young children but know they couldn't do it without the support they've received.

"We feel very blessed with the support from the families and the whole community actually. It's going to work itself out and we know that and we believe that and that's what's gonna help us through this tragedy."
