More than a dozen construction workers returned to downtown Atlanta on Thursday aboard a MegaBus, with their dreams crushed. They responded to an advertisement that offered them well-paying jobs in Missouri, but they tell FOX 5 none of those promises were kept.
Several of the workers showed us the filer, promising 50 people paid-for travel, lodging, food and a $1,000 per week paycheck for two years. The job covered framing and general labor in Missouri.
FOX 5 tried to reach Everything Staffing, which provided the opportunity, but we couldn't. Another company, Black Sparta, advertised the opportunity on Craigslist. We couldn't reach them either.
Several of the workers told FOX 5 they're now contemplating legal action for what they call a 10-day construction job scam. The workers reported to Missouri last Monday. Some of those who responded to the ad are still stuck in Columbia because they didn't have enough money to get home.
