School security was front and center in Austin Tuesday, even as shots ran out at the North Harris campus of Lonestar College.
State Senator John Whitmire of Houston had just proposed a new law designed to make Texas schools safer. His proposal would deal specifically with combating gun violence on elementary, Middle school and High School campuses.
Whitmire's legislation would not include college campuses, like Lonestar, but he said after Tuesday's shooting he is considering adding Colleges and Universities.
As for arming teachers in schools, Whitmire says police have told him that is a bad idea because responding officers could mistake a teacher with a gun for a bad guy and shoot the teacher.
