HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Houston's real estate market is trending toward a seller's market, so affordable housing can be quite a find.
Affordable and highly efficient may be rarer still, but a Houston builder is launching a line of such homes in a neighborhood that could use the good news.
In the middle of Independence Heights, near North Main, HOUZE homes are now for sale.
They boast hurricane resistance and a number of systems that minimize energy use.
The centerpiece is a natural-gas fueled power cell that generates more electricity than it uses.
"We felt like if we could demonstrate it here, then it makes sense anywhere," says HOUZE CEO David Goswick, "Anybody can go build a zero-energy home over half a million dollars, but pulling it down to a small affordable home is challenging."
HOUZE will have 12 models available for sale, with prices ranging from $150,000 to $250,000.
