Homicide detectives on Long Island are investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy found unconscious and alone in an Amityville apartment on Wednesday afternoon.
Suffolk County police say officers found Adonis Reed on a living room couch after receiving a 911 call requesting an ambulance to the Ketcham Ave. apartment just before 4 p.m.
Suffolk County Police Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says there were signs the Reed had suffered violence.
Police say no adults were present in the apartment.
The boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later.
The child was then taken to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner where an autopsy was be performed on Friday morning.
Police told Newsday that the boy and his six-year-old sister were living in the home with two adults who were not their parents.
Suffolk County Police say that Reed's sister is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
