
The U.S. Army has identified a soldier, stationed at Fort Hood, who died of an apparent gunshot wound at an off-post home in Killeen.
Specialist James Jesse Delacruz, 29, who lived in Spring before he was stationed at Ft. Hood, died on Sunday, Jan. 13. He entered active military duty service in November 2007 and was assigned in October 2008 to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 41st Fires Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood.
Delacruz served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between February 2009 and February 2010. He also served in support of Operation New Dawn between July 2011 and December 2011.
The Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons are just some of the honors bestowed upon Delacruz during his military career.
