College football sources told FOX 26 Sports the University of Houston has hired former Texans secondary coach David Gibbs as the Cougars new defensive coordinator.
He replaces Jamie Bryant who had the job for one year.
An announcement by the school is expected on Tuesday.
Gibbs, son of long-time NFL offensive line coach Alex Gibbs, spent nine years in the NFL coaching the secondary with the Denver Broncos (2001-2004), Kansas City Chiefs (2006-2008) and Houston Texans (2009-2010).
He has five years experience as a defensive coordinator at the collegiate level, with Minnesota (1997-2000) and Auburn (2005).
