HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Only one out of every 16,000 student athletes will ever play professional sports, according to a Georgia State University study. But a local business is working to give those young athletes their best chance to compete.
Plex is a sports training and rehab facility, originally designed for pro-athletes. In recent years, a growing part of the business is catering to developing youngsters.
Where team coaches might concentrate on drills and tactics, personalized training works to condition kids for action. That's especially important in young, still-developing bodies.
"We are here to, not only, develop the athletic side of it but the confidence side of it," Plex owner Danny Arnold said. "When parents look at us working with their kids, they understand that we're not just trying to make them run faster or jump higher: we're actually building their confidence so that when they're having these games, they're actually having fun."
Arnold said about half of his business is geared toward kids, sometimes as young as six.
