NY man gets prison for pot-filled pasta salad

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — An Albany-area man will be dining in state prison after police found him with macaroni salad containing an herb not normally found on kitchen spice racks.

State police pulled over 42-year-old Andrew Northern of Troy for a traffic violation in September. When the trooper approached the car, an odor of marijuana wafted from the vehicle.

Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares says police searched the vehicle and found 500 bags of marijuana hidden in a container of macaroni salad. Northern pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 4 and was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison.
