NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Dusty Springfield was a musical icon.  She was the singer of hits like "Son of a Preacher man" and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me."

Her her life was anything but easy, from drug addiction to bipolar disorder to always answering questions about her sexuality.

Her story is the basis for the Off-Broadway production Forever Dusty.  It is being performed at the New World Stages on West 50th St.

Kirsten Holly Smith, who wrote and stars in the show, along with co-star Christina Sajous, appeared on Tuesday's Good Day New York.
