The Houston Rockets announced on Saturday that rookie forward Royce White has been "assigned" to the team's NBA Development League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports White worked out this past week at Toyota Center as part of a multi-week plan of getting him ready for the NBA.
Step one of the process, according to sources, was working out at Toyota Center.
The trip to the D-League is step two.
White, who has not been available for comment, has been away from the Rockets organization since early November.
While away from the team, White, his doctors, agents and the Rockets have been developing plans to help him deal with his general anxiety disorder while playing in the NBA.
FOX 26 Sports first reported on Dec. 20 that White had said he would begin workouts at Toyota Center during the week of Christmas in an effort to facilitate his return to the Rockets organization.
White said then he is "hopeful" he will be able to play for the Rockets again this year.
"I want to play for the Rockets more than anything," White said on Dec. 20.
