Gov Perry sets Jan. 26th for special election to fill Gallegos seat

Governor Rick Perry announced on Thursday,  the special election to fill Texas State Senate seat for District 6 formerly held by the late Sen. Mario Gallegos will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

Candidates for this special election must file applications with the Secretary of State no later than 5 p.m. on December 27, 2012.

Early voting for the special election will run from Wednesday January 9th to Tuesday January 22nd.

The winner will serve a four year term beginning in 2013.

Gallegos died in October from complications from a liver transplant.

Gallegos had served in the Texas Senate since 1994.  He was the first Hispanic elected to represent Harris County.
