For students at Ketelson Elementary School, the Honor Roll means more than just good grades. It means a special Christmas surprise.
KCEF, The Kym Coleman Education Foundation, has been rewarding kids in December for their hard work during the school year for more than a decade.
"We actually started in the school with like two honor roll students. Now we're up to 122," says Cookie Michael, KCEF Founder.
Michael's daughter, Kym, who died in a plane crash in 1993, is the group's inspiration.
"It keeps her memory and her spirit alive," says Michael. "And I love the kids."
And from the hugs and looks on their faces, the kids love Cookie. She and her volunteers raise money year round to create the big day of bikes and gift cards for students who earn Honor Roll status. There's also the Most Improved Award.
Incentive and excitement as a mother gives back in honor of her Christmas angel.
