Houston remembers its crime victims Saturday at a tree-lighting ceremony at city hall.
Every ornament carries the name or face of someone who was murdered.
Steven Castro, 23, is one of them. He was stabbed to death outside an East Houston bar in 2006.
Castro's mother now helps care for his identical twin daughters. They are seven years old and full of questions.
"Why did he die? And I can't answer that question. I can't answer who did it," Maria Castro said.
"The holiday season, it's very discomforting for a lot of families because you realize there's a chair missing. There's a hole, basically," crime victims advocate Andy Kahan said.
It's the eighteenth year for this crime victims' memorial. There are now so many ornaments, they have to use two trees.
