A violent attack on Atlanta's new Beltline Eastside Trail has people concerned about safety on one of the city's most popular new attractions. The armed robbery took place Thursday and was the third within a month on the Beltline.
The victim was jogging along the trail in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon when three men came on him, one of them on a bicycle. The victim says one man punched him in the face and another pulled a gun on him.
The Atlanta Police Department says they have added extra patrols because of safety concerns.
"We've put foot patrols on there, bicycle patrols and we also have an electric vehicle," said Carlos Campos of the Atlanta Police Department. "APD is not going to tolerate crimes on this trail period."
APD also says their working with Beltline officials and may add more lighting, call boxes and mile markers.
"It's just critical that people know the Beltline is such a valuable resource for the city and the Atlanta Police Department is not going to let users of that trail fall prey to crime," said Campos.
There have been no arrests made in Thursday's robbery, according to police.
