HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
The Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's Office said they did not thoroughly search a North Shore High School student who shot himself.
They are investigating to see if the involved deputies violated procedures.
Pct. 3 said it does not appear they did.
"The situation was he was not under arrest. He was detained for his own safety. They were not sure what the situation was. He had made threats to hurt himself. They did not know if he had a weapon. They did not know if he had a weapon. They did a pat down to see if he had something," Capt. Jon Moore said.
Moore said if the student was arrested, he would have been thoroughly searched.
He said they were taking him to meet up with EMS to get him treatment.
But at the end of the day, they still missed the gun.
The student remains in intensive care after suffering a gunshot wound to his head.
The deputies remain on the job and on the street pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation could wrap up Friday.
