HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Family, friends and political dignitaries will say their final goodbyes to Texas Congressman Jack Brooks on Dec. 9.
Brooks died Tuesday night at Beaumont's Baptist Hospital after a sudden illness.
The democrat spent 42 years representing his Southeast Texas district in the US House.
Brooks was part of the Dallas motorcade when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
He was pictured in that famous photo of Lyndon B. Johnson taking the oath of office.
The congressman also helped write the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which ended segregation.
Services will be held on the campus of Lamar University.
Brooks was 89.
