Centerpoint Energy and the Houston SPCA host holiday pet food drive
Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston is working in partnership with CenterPoint Energy and Houston SPCA to host a holiday pet food drive to collect cat and dog food for the organization's aniMeals on Wheels program from Nov. 28 to Dec. 12.
The program was started five years ago so that homebound seniors on Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston's Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston program would not have to share their limited food and resources with their four legged friends.
"CenterPoint Energy employees are committed to the families and communities we serve," said Heather Dunagin, CenterPoint Energy marketing analyst and organizer of the pet food drive. "By collecting pet food, we hope to help homebound seniors in the Houston area feed their pets without sacrificing their own meal. These pets offer seniors security, companionship and an increased quality of life since many live alone."
"The aniMeals on Wheels program is important because it helps keep pets in the senior's home," said Patricia Mercer, Houston SPCA president. "Limited income and mobility often force elderly pet owners to make the difficult choice of feeding themselves or feeding their pets. aniMeals ensures that seniors can keep and provide the very best for their beloved friends!"
Volunteers deliver more than 7,000 lbs. of donated dog and cat food to more than 450 seniors and 1,100 pets each month. The program relies completely on donations and dog and cat food (both wet and dry) are needed.
"We are so thankful to CenterPoint Energy and Houston SPCA for collecting pet food for our elderly Meals on Wheels seniors," said Denise Atkerson, Director of Volunteer Services of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. "The need for this service grows more and more each year and we rely on the community to help us meet the demand. Every little bit helps, especially during the holidays."

In fact, he is so overwhelmed with joy that he is picking up the tab on ALL cat and kitten adoptions this weekend. From Friday, November 30th through Sunday, December 2nd, during "Pierce's Pick" approved adopters can take home up to two fancy felines at NO FEE!
Each feline adoption package will include the following:
•A health evaluation, age-appropriate vaccinations and rabies vaccinations for felines three months and older
•Spay / neuter surgery

•One adoption gift courtesy of Hill's Science Diet
•And, of course, a feline friend furrever!
Pierce wants to give the gift of life and love to all of his feline friends this holiday season. Make sure to catch his blog, "Mewsings by Pierce" to see how he is doing in foster care and when he will be available for adoption.
