More than a week since his indictment, Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino breaks his silence.
Trevino made his first court appearance on Tuesday morning with attorney Chip Lewis. He has been charged with misapplication of fiduciary property, abuse of official capacity, and two counts of tampering with government records related to his political campaigns, the charity he operates and his administration of Pct. 6.
The case against Trevino was reset for Jan. 9, 2013.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett has already recommended that Trevino step down from his duties as constable until the case is closed, but Lewis says Trevino will stay in place as Pct. 6 Constable.
The indictments against Treviño are the result of a 14-month-long investigation by the Harris County District Attorney's Office Public Integrity Division.
Lewis told FOX 26 News that Trevino resigned his position eight months earlier with the non-profit organization CARE, which has been disbanded and is no longer in operation.
