Bigger isn't alwaysbetter. Plenty of small business owners are tweeting me @DamaliKeithFOXand they're posting on my Facebook page their business information such asAlisa Murray Photography, KJH T-shirt printing and Sniffsations Candle Company. It's all in an attempt to get support on Small Business Saturday.

Patronizing 'mom and pop shops'can really pay for them and for you. Turning away from mass-produced presentsand turning to small shops and boutiques, you can score some one of a kindfinds.

"They're looking for unique and small and beautiful," says AmyVenegas at The Happy Peddler in Old TownSpring.

The hot sellers for Priscilla Stoner atSilver Door Gifting in Rice Village are the real records recreated to be bowlsand the, well, I'll call it the "darn it" doll. It tells you right on thebelly the stuffed doll gives you something to take your frustration outon.

"We have sold out of them so fast we have them on back order. Hopefully we'll receive it next week. Everything here is American-handcrafted and we use a lot of local artists," says Silver Door Gifting ownerStoner.

In Old Town Spring, SmallBusiness Saturday has transformed into one big block party.

"We're selling a lot of ourhandmade Christmas decorations and our antique furniture that is all hand-finished by our Happy Peddler himself," says Venegas.

Small Business Saturday was created byAmerican Express in 2010. The big day is right after Black Fridayand before Cyber Monday and is an effort to drum up support for up and comingcompanies.

All day on Saturday, Kelley Lee has been telling anyonewho would listen, and even a few who wouldn't, to go out and suppport 'mom and popshops. ' FOX 26 News caught up with her in Spring practicing what she's beenpreaching.

"I feel like that's the Americana. That's the heartbeatof America. We need to support the small business, keep the economygoing," says Lee.

AMEX is also offering $25 backto cardholders who support small businesses on this big day.  Tell me onTwitter about your small business @DamaliKeithFOX. Also please like myFacebook fan page at!/DamaliKeithFOX26.
