A difficult Thanksgiving came a day late for one local family. Robert Marshall of Auburn is now caring for his sister's three children after she was killed in a fire at the family's Tennessee farmhouse on Monday.
Kristina Kallstrom rescued her three children-- ages 5, 8 and 12-- from the fire, but she did not survive. Her brother says she had just gone back to college to become a music teacher. Her husband died of a heart attack in August.
Marshall, who lives in Auburn, says his sister's kids have nothing left but the pajamas they were wearing at the time. Caring for the three kids will be a big job for Marshall and his wife, who already have two children of their own. Marshall says he'll need everything from beds to a vehicle big enough to carry his new family of seven.
People in Tennessee and here in Georgia have stepped up to help. Marshall says he just wants the kids to know that they are loved and they will be cared for.
A fund has been set up for the family, and donations can be sent to: Kallstrom Family Memorial Fund River Hills Church PO Box 204 Bethlehem, GA 30620 Phone: (770) 867-0909
