People in Debra and Vincent Leggio's neighborhood knew something was wrong when Texas State Troopers pulled in front of their house on Thanksgiving Day.
"We get the locals, sometimes the constables," Garret Kaufman said.
Word quickly spread the Leggios had died in a massive pile-up on Interstate 10. The accident shut down the freeway for hours.
"It's just a tragedy that we've lost this couple. What a tragedy for the community. We can only hope for the best for their family and children and grandchildren."
Vincent Leggio owned Vinco Electric in Pearland. At the Christian Helping Hands Charity next door, they remembered him as a friendly and helpful man.
"He would come over and do minor electrical work to keep out building going. He would only charge for the big stuff when he had to," Margaret Fassy said as she and another volunteer loaded food in the back of a pickup truck for delivery.
A family representative told FOX 26 they were too distraught to speak on camera. The rep said the family was in a really difficult place right now and asked for privacy.
