A murder suspect is behind bars thanks to a tipster who led detectives to the Rio Grande Valley.
Neil Mukherjee, 20, was caught in Donna, Texas, six hours south of Houston.
Mukherjee was applying for a job weeks after he shot and killed Vanessa Rodriguez, 23, Houston Police said.
"Neil had a very distinct tattoo underneath his right eye which immediately told me that's our guy," Sgt. W.L. Meeler said.
Just days after releasing surveillance video from the apartments in the 8500 block of Pinter, police got a break in the case.
Several witnesses told investigators hours prior to the attack, Mukherjee was seen "loitering" or "hunting" for easy targets, HPD said.
"He leaves in a vehicle, and we get closer to the time of our murder at about 11 a.m.," Meeler said of the surveillance video.
In that video we see a man in a gray hoodie walk away from the complex property, just after he attacked and shot Rodriguez multiple times while her one-year-old baby girl watched from her high chair.
Detectives said Rodriguez managed to call 9-1-1 but later died at the hospital.
"We want to get that pistol off the street and basically,
no questions asked, we believe it's a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol," Meeler said.
He said Mukherjee admitted he sold the murder weapon after the attack but not before preying on another mother and child in the Greenspoint area.
The victims in that case are still recovering and Mukherjee could face another charge of aggravated robbery, along with the capital murder charge for Rodriguez's death.
