HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Four people are dead and 17 others were injured after a Union Pacific freight train slammed into a parade float carrying wounded veterans and their spouses in west Texas.
Police said the float was among two flatbed trucks and the guests of honor were sitting in chairs set up on the flatbed decorated with flags.
A banner across the truck's front bumper read "Heroes on Board".
A preliminary investigation indicates the crossing gate and lights were working at the time and the train was sounding its horn as the parade vehicles attempted to make their way through the railroad crossing.
The national transportation safety board is investigating.
