
The Houston Rockets announced on Saturday that head coach Kevin McHale has taken an immediate leave of absence from the team to attend to a personal family matter.
Assistant coach Kelvin Sampson will handle the head coaching dutues while McHale is away from the team beginning with tonight's game with the Detroit Pistons at Toyota Center.
The Rockets said no return date for McHale has been set.,
"Kevin is a devoted family man who is needed back home in Minnesota at the moment," said Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey in a statement released by the team.
"The Rockets organization will keep Kevin and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
