All aboard Galveston's new, improved railroad museum

Posted: Updated:

All Aboard! More than four years after taking a drubbing from Hurricane Ike, Galveston's Railroad Museum is celebrating its Grand Re-Opening.

On Saturday, the museum is welcoming a pair of refurbished Santa Fe "Warbonnet" engines along with three reconditioned passenger cars which had been swamped by Ike's flooding.

The train will be on permanent display, although many people hope it will eventually "ride the rails."

"It's going to give us the opportunity to possibly start some type of rail service out of Galveston," said museum board member, Patrick Henry.

During Ike, the Galveston Railroad Museum took on about 9 feet of water. Repairs and clean-up have cost about four million dollars.
