Hollywood may be your first thought when it comes to movies, but a group of filmmakers in the Woodlands is working hard to get in on the action.
In 2007, a community and volunteer effort produced a kids film called "The Bracelet of Bordeaux" to prove movies could be made locally.
Now, small studios, production companies and animators are luring independent film projects with the promise of enthusiastic local support.
"The community model, and what we're doing here … we try to get the economics right," film producer Frank Eakin said. "We have the talent base. We're building the infrastructure, so that films will shoot here and we can build an industry and have a home for the industry here."
In June 2013, a film produced by actor Forest Whitaker will begin several weeks of shooting in The Woodlands for a story based in Texas.
