Mario Gallegos may have died, but that didn't stop him from defeating Republican candidate R.W. Bray and keeping his District 6 Texas Senate seat.
Gallegos died in Houston on Oct. 16. Many wondered what would happen if Gallegos was posthumously reelected.
That month, Rice University Political Science chairman Mark Jones said as soon as Gallegos won the election, Governor Rick Perry could call a special election.
Depending on how quickly Perry moves, the seat could be filled as early as January or as late as April.
