Tanker truck explodes, shuts down Beltway 8 - Houston weather, traffic, news | FOX 26 | MyFoxHouston

A tanker truck is no more after it overturned and exploded in northeast Harris County.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. Friday on Beltway 8 East at Beaumont Highway, according to Houston TranStar.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the truck was carrying around 8,000 gallons of gasoline.  The driver managed to get out before the truck erupted in flames.

Firefighters and a hazmat team were called to the scene.  All northbound lanes of Beltway 8 were shut down.
