Texas Children's Hospital is stepping up to provide low-income families with legal assistance.
The hospital is partnering with the Houston Bar Association's Houston Volunteer Lawyers.
The goal is to handle health issues that have legal solutions.
For example, attorneys will be able to negotiate with a landlord on ways to address mold infestation triggering a child's asthma or helping a family secure Medicaid payment for a specialized wheelchair.
"When we can say these families have had access to justice that they never had before, that will be a success," Executive Director Alissa Gomez said.
Organizers say the project is being funded in part by a donation from Walmart.
