NATIONAL MILITARY FAMILY ASSOCIATION (NMFA)
Military Spouse Scholarships
The National Military Family Association recognizes the unique challenges today's military spouses face in pursuing additional training or education. Frequent moves make it difficult to complete programs and establish a
career. We are here to help ease the financial obstacles that accompany pursuing a higher education. A valid Military ID is the only requirement to apply for the program
Operation Purple Camps (OPC)
The National Military Family Association's Operation Purple camps are a time for having fun, making friends, and reminding military kids that they are the Nation's youngest heroes. The Operation Purple program also includes
leadership camps for teens, family retreats at the national parks, and camps geared to address the needs of children and families of our nations wounded service members. Please direct questions regarding the Operation
Purple program to OPC@militaryfamily.org.
Wounded Warriors + Families
Operation Purple Healing Adventures is an all expenses paid family camp experience for active duty or medically retired service members who were wounded or experienced emotional trauma or illness related to their service in
Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring freedom (OEF). Members of the National Guard and Reserve may be in either activated or drilling status, provided their injury was sustained while on active duty status.
The National Military Family Association will offer four-day retreats two set in a National Park using nature's classroom, where families will have opportunities to strengthen and renew relationships, explore the natural
surroundings, and participate in fun family-focused activities. These retreats are open to service members and their families who have experienced deployment within the last 15 months. To be eligible to be considered for
these retreats, service members must have returned from deployment no less than 3 months or no more than 15 months prior to the start date of each retreat. Families who attend will receive a $200 stipend per family upon
arrival to the retreat site to cover cost of travel. The retreats are free thanks to support from the Sierra Club and the Sierra Club Foundation.
Military Family Award Program
The Association's Military Family of the Year Award recognizes strong military families who embrace their service to the Nation, are role models in their community, and understand that together they are stronger. Nominate your
family or a special family you know. One family from each of the seven Uniformed Services will be chosen, from the nominations submitted, to represent their Service branch. As you know that while one member joins, the
whole family serves.
Teen Leadership Camps
The Operation Purple Leadership Experience (OPLE) is for military teens that have shown an ability and willingness to lead and mentor in their military communities. The summer camps are Phase I of II of the
leadership experience. Camps are united in a mutual mission: to develop strong leadership skills by giving teens the tools needed to develop self-confidence and the opportunity to test their strengths and abilities. As a condition
of this free program, each teen and his or her parent(s) must sign an agreement to complete a community service project and document progress with the National Military Family Association. All participants will be required to
obtain a community mentor as part of the application process.
Operation Purple camps offer a free week of summer fun for military kids with parents who have been, are currently, or will be deployed. The goal of the Operation Purple camp program is to give military children tools to
help deal with the stresses that result from a parent's deployment, through a memorable camp experience in a "purple" environment. Operation Purple camps are open to military children of all ranks and Services: active and
reserve components—and give priority to children whose parents are currently within a 15 month deployment "window").
