The Astros chose not to pick up the 2013 option on catcher Chris Snyder's contract.
The option was worth $4 million. Snyder gets a $500,000 buyout.
"I spoke with (Astros general manager) Jeff (Luhnow) and he told me they were not going to pick up the option," said Ryan Ware, Snyder's agent.
"We are going to circle back and we would be interested in the possibility of returning."
Luhnow said he has a similiar interest.
"It does exist," Luhnow said. "I've talked to Ryan about it and we're going to have that conversation.
"Carlos Corporan showed us enough in August and December to warrant serious consideration for the backup spot.
"We want to give him an opportunity to compete for that spot. So we're not going to do a guaranteed contract for anybody else. So whoever it is that we bring into compete with Corporan for that backup spot will be on a non-guaranteed basis."
In Snyder's only season with his hometown Astros he hit .176 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 76 games.
