Pugnacious NFL & BMOC Picks: Texans enjoy R&R and view from atop AFC

Posted: Updated:

The Unabashed Blogorrhea shaking and stirring while serving up pugnacious NFL and BMOC picks each and every week.  Entertainment purposes only.  Money back not guaranteed.

As in years past, the rules each week: fearlessly (or not) forecasting the Texans and the Cowboys always plus four other games from the weekly professional slate which supposedly allegedly offer particularly promising prospects.

And some assorted BCS selections when warranted which strike a particular fancy.  No need to remind - for entertainment purposes.  Only.

TEXANS open week.
Enjoy the view from atop the AFC into season's second half.  It begins when the Bills bring Mario back for boos after boos after boos.

GIANTS (-2.5) at COWBOYS.  Few travel as well as the champs.  Higher the consequences, better the Eli, better the show on the road.  Romo's ad lib was ab fab in the stunning NFL opening night (307 yards and three TDs for 24-17).  But New York New York owns JerryWorld (3-0) and they nail the season split.

EAGLES (+3) vs. FALCONS.  Philly with Andy Reid is especially good out of the open week (13-0).  Atlanta is not very good at all against the run (more than 140 yards per).  How much longer can you stay perfect with that particular flaw?  Not long at all.

PACKERS (-14.5) vs. JAGUARS.  Rodgers is revving.  With no MJD Jax utterly outmatched and outclassed.

REDSKINS/STEELERS OVER 47.5.  Robert Griffin on pace to throw for 3,659 yards and run for 1,069.  If you can finish the season in tact.  Large ‘if."  Lots of RG3 razzmatazz if not Washington wins.  Lots of points with neither defense in Pittsburgh Sunday holding up.

Norv has seen 42 turnovers in 22 games and it seems as though his quarterback has every single one.  Actually only 37 belongs to Philip Rivers (29 interceptions, eight fumbles).  Stunning number for someone not named "Cassel" or "Quinn."  Just can't punch the ticket on Cleveland even though all their outcomes but one have been close and dictate taking the points at home.  Just can't do it.

Slim pickings (so to speak) among the crazy college kids.  Who's playing QB for Oregon St. or Oklahoma St.?  Who's playing QB for how long for Notre Dame?  Landry Jones is playing against Notre Dame but how well against a defense as nasty as Notre Dame's in a high profile high stakes game where he routinely shrinks?  Can't give 11.5 but will give Stoops eight tons of credit for continuing to schedule unlike so many other cowardly so-called elites (home-and-home with the Irish, Florida St., Miami, Alabama, Oregon, UCLA, Washington in the past decade).  But we digress.

South Carolina is in a crappy mood against crappy Tennessee and Spurrier loves piling on against the Vols.  But Bray just as capable of slinging for a backdoor cover with +14 even in face of ever present Dooley Factor.

The Rice Owls are even a favorite. Seriously.  The two-win Owls a two point-plus pick.  Against Southern Miss.  The same Southern Miss one year ago at this time headed to the conference title (to the ever loving disgust and kick-to-the-gut chagrin of the Cougars).  Well, not exactly the SAME Southern Miss.  This Southern Miss arrives winless.  And one of a half dozen from Conference DOA with six or more losses.  But still, Rice a fave.  Suitable for photo and framing.  But unsuitable for these purposes.

Doege has some "D" to back him up plus 817 yards and 13 TDs last two games against one single solitary interception.  Red Raiders riding two mojo wins.  Still not confident in the +7 but feeling both into the 30s.  On FOX FOX.

TEXAS/KANSAS OVER 60.  Can you possibly give 19.5 with a defense as dastardly deficient as the Mack Brown Bunch?  Even with Kansas?  Even with KANSAS?  At Kansas?  Early AM kick?  No, no you cannot.  But you take the over.

AUBURN (+14.5) vs. TEXAS A&M.  As scary as it gets when visiting a team with but one win.  Aggies win but given their defense and the desperate times for Tigers and it's well earned.

Both undefeated.  Tide stays that way.  Visitors strong enough in both trenches and at QB to stay tough enough to the end and within the margin.

TEXANS (6-2)
REST (11-18)
BMOC (15-11)
