Residents are concerned about suspicious stickers that were left on dozens of homes in several Atlanta communities.
The stickers looked like notices commonly left behind by delivery services such as UPS or FedEx. But a closer look made Mark Craighead suspicious.
"It's pretty sneaky. Obviously made to look like a delivery notice of some sort," said Craighead.
The notices instruct readers to call a number. FOX 5 got a recording when we dialed the number. However, Atlanta police said someone did answer they dialed. Police said that the stickers are part of a marketing ploy to try and get people to subscribe to an alarm system. They started investigating once they received complaints from neighbors.
They said this is a reminder to never give private information over the phone.
The company isn't breaking the law, but neighbors say the message is misleading.
"I think it's odd that someone would ask if you are interested in a security system. Not to engage you but just to leave a sticker," said Robin Callioux. "The fact that it looks like a sticker, a postage delivery sticker - and it's not, I think that's a little sketchy."
Neighbors spread word about the ploy through their community discussion boards and Facebook groups.

As we celebrate Memorial Day weekend, we'll pause to remember the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. It's also a great time to thank veterans for their service to our country—veterans just like World War II American hero Lew Fern.
