
Conroe, Texas (FOX26)----- The state of Texas is seeking the death penalty for the woman accused of killing a young mother and abducting her newborn son.
A hearing was held today at the Montgomery County courthouse for Verna McClain. The 30 year old licensed vocational nurse is charged with capital murder of 28 year old Karla Golden.
Golden was shot to death on April 17th outside of a pediatric clinic where she had just taken her 3 day old baby for a check up. McClain is accused of then taking the infant to her sister's house.
Prosecutors have said the alleged motive for McClain was she had told her fiancee she had given birth after having a miscarriage and needed to produce a baby.
Detectives have said McClain confessed to the crime but said her statements changed constantly.
