A local Democratic Party staffer was fired after an Internet video showed she encouraged a voter to cast a ballot in multiple states.
Project Veritas, a conservative activist group, produced the undercover video which made a stop in the Democratic Party's Organizing for America Houston office. The DNC said it fired the staffer who appeared to be helping a woman who said she wanted to register and vote for President Barack Obama in Texas and Florida.
Political observers said absentee voter fraud is easy, since registration happens at the local level, and there's little way to cross-reference multiple votes.
"It's indicative of an underlying problem we have in our system," Rice University political science professor Mark Jones said. "There is a flaw in the US voting system that allows people to vote in multiple states and really, if they want to, in that same state multiple times."
It is a felony to vote more than once in the same election. Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart said he has asked the DA's office to investigate whether the video shows any illegality.
