Rice Owls get verbal commitment from forward Denzel Davis

Rice coach Ben Braun lands a verbal commitment from 6-8 forward Denzel Davis who is in his senior season at Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, Fla.

Davis averaged 8.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocked shots last season for the Highlanders.

He told FOX 26 Sports he thought the mix of academics with basketball and getting the chance to play for Braun made Rice the perfect match for him.

"He has so much experience and I felt like he knew every right thing to say, and winning 600 games doesn't hurt either," Davis said.

In 35 years as a college basketball head coach Braun's overall record is 603-468.
