  • 1. First to Reach Supersonic Speed in Freefall:
    • First person to break the speed of sound and achieve Mach 1 in freefall
    • estimated 690 mph, with further acceleration possible
    • Hit 690 mph within 40 seconds
  • 2. Freefall from Highest Altitude: Expected jump from 120,000 ft,
  • 3. Longest Freefall Time: Expected freefall of 5 minutes, 35 seconds or more
  • 4. Highest Manned Balloon Flight: Expected ascent to 120,000 ft

  • 23 mile freefall from the edge of space is on hold because of weather.

The freefall has been delayed until 9.a.m. Houston time.

 

In less than an hour, Felix Baumgartner's will take supersonic freefall from 120,000 ft from the edge of space.

It will be the ultimate scientific experiment in a near-space environment.

The mission is to push the human limits by making a freefall jump from space.  Along the way Baumgartner will become the first man to break the sound barrier in free fall.

The Mission called Stratos, is sponsored by the energy drink Red Bull.

The jump right now is currently scheduled to be streamed live on the Internet.  You can watch it above.
