Police warn of attempted child abductions in Austin neighborhood: Alert

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Police are looking for suspects in two separate attempted child abductions last week in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The first incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. last Monday when a 13-year-old boy was walking home from school at LeClaire and Maypole avenues when a black, four-door vehicle with a temporary registration plate approached, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.
The driver told the boy he knew his mother and to get in the car, the alert said. When they boy kept walking, the driver approached on foot and grabbed the boy around the neck while attempting to drag him to the car.
The boy fought back and ran away while the vehicle fled south on Lavergne Avenue, the alert said.
The suspects are described as two black males, the alert said. The first suspect is described as 5-feet-2, 20 to 30 years old, medium build, with dread locks just above the ear lobe. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
The second incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. last Wednesday while a 10-year-old boy was walking home from John Hay Community Academy when a male followed him to the 5100 block of Iowa Street, an alert said.
The suspect grabbed the boy by the hood of his sweatshirt as he approached Leamington Avenue, the alert said. The boy yelled for help and the suspect fled north on Leamington Avenue from Iowa Street.
The suspect is described as black, 5-feet10 to 6-feet, 20-30, medium build, with short black hair and a small mustache, the alert said. He was last seen wearing a yellow short sleeve t-shirt, light brown pants and black work boots.
