
A violent sex offender is on the run after escaping from an east Houston halfway house.
Thomas Lee Elkins, 58, escaped from the Southeast Texas Transitional Center in the 10900 block of Beaumont Highway, where he was housed and electrically monitored, the Texas Department of Public Safety says. He was last seen around 2:45 p.m. Friday.
Elkins is believed to be on foot, but he has a trucker background. DPS believes he may run to a truck stop and get a ride with a driver there.
Elkins is described as:
-- White male, 58 years old
-- Around 6'3"
-- Around 200 pounds
-- Blue eyes
-- Grey hair
-- Has Fu Manchu mustache
-- Walks with a limp
-- Has silver reading glasses
Elkins was previously convicted of Kidnapping, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Sexual Assault and Sexual Battery. His arrests include Indecent Liberties with a Child, Forcible Rape, Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Kidnapping.
