A local charity is helping troops in Afghanistan have sweet dreams when they hit the sack.
It's called Operation: Sweet Dreams, Soldier! A message or design for a soldier is put on a pillow and then shipped to them overseas.
This is how Theresa Looney and her friends and family have been spending most of their free time these last few weeks.......inscribing pillows upon pillows upon pillows.....all for a good cause.
You see, just a few weeks after Theresa's son, Army Private First Class Jacob Looney, left for Afghanistan, she got a Facebook message from him:
"He said send me a pillow and I said what do you mean? He said we don't have a pillow, the only ones that have them had them sent from home, and I said okay I'm sending pillows," said Theresa.
"We went out shopping and bought 20 pillows and they spent the day decorating them," said Theresa.
Since then, Theresa hasn't stopped....her living room....is now the pillow room.....and she says she doesn't care....because she knows exactly where they're going.
"They go over there serving us and they deserve a little bit of comfort, let people know that we do appreciate what they do for us," said Theresa.
"We get a lot with the bible verses on them which are really nice," said Theresa.
"I had one of the soldiers told my son, that my family knows I'm here and they care he said, this make me feel like America cares I'm here," said Theresa.
Diane Adams also has a son overseas-Lance Corporal Nolan Adams.
"Comfort, the feeling of home, their beds aren't comfortable so a pillow always makes it nicer," said Diane.
The pillows have gotten so popular, Theresa has gotten the community involved.
"Every payday I buy 20-30 pillows and I send them to the churches for the kids to do," said Theresa.
Theresa has a Facebook page for her charity....and she welcomes donations.
There is a PayPal account and an account at Wells Fargo....all money will help with the shipping, packaging and purchase of pillows.
Theresa says she will do a personalized message if you know a soldier overseas.
