An 11-year-old autistic child was killed after he tried to cross a service road in northwest Houston, police say.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, a car struck the child on the westbound feeder of the Katy Freeway near North Kirkwood, Houston Police say.
The child got away from his dad at a nearby apartment complex and began walking across the service road. At one point, he got confused and tried to turn back, but it was too late. A car struck him, stopping a short distance away.
An ambulance was taking the child to Texas Children's Hospital. The child died sometime later.
Police are investigating.
