HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
The cost for college keeps going up, and expensive schools don't always mean big paychecks, a new study from "Smart Money" magazine finds.
A growing, more affordable option is community college. Lone Star College boasts nearly 90,000 students and says it is the fastest growing school in the country. With tuition costs far below traditional four-year universities, Lone Star says families are finding it makes sense to start small.
"They're beginning to realize that, particularly in Texas, community colleges are a fantastic place to start," Chancellor Dr. Richard Carpenter said. "You can transfer to universities essentially anywhere and earn that degree at expensive universities without the full cost of going to that university."
Lone Star says more than three-quarters of four-year university graduates in Texas will get part of their education from a community college.
