Sugar Land's Jean Lopez, Team U.S.A Olympic taekwondo coach for the 2004, 2008, and 2012 summer games, has an offer to become the Olympic taekwondo coach for Brazil.
Lopez's contract with USA Taekwondo expires on Dec. 31.
"They've (Brazil) offered a pretty good deal. It's a multi-million dollar deal over four years," Jean Lopez told FOX 26 Sports.
"I haven't made a decision yet. I'd like to make a decision by the first of December."
Jean Lopez has also been the head coach for the United States at the Taekwondo World Championships in 2001, 2003, and 2005.
His athletes have won 20 medals (eight gold) at the World Championships and six medals (two gold) at the Olympic games.
Jean Lopez coaches his brothers, Steven and Mark, and sister Diana, who have helped him have tremendous success for the United States in taekwondo at the international level.
When Steve, Mark and Diana made the 2008 Olympic team, it was the first time three siblings from a U.S. family had done that since 1904.
When all three medaled in 2008, it was the first time in U.S. Olympic history that three members from the same family had accomplished that feat.
The offer to coach Brazil's Olympic team, regardless of his decision, means a great deal to Jean Lopez.
"From a professional standpoint it's an honor to know that you've been recognized and validated for your hard work, your efforts and success," he said.
"As far as a decision, I have to take a real hard look and make sure that it's the right direction, not just for me but for my children and my brothers and my sister.
"Now that the offer is on the table it is something that I have to consider."
Lopez said it will not be easy for him to make the decision to leave USA Taekwondo.
"Very difficult," Jean Lopez said. "Very, very very difficult. I'm not in this for the money. I do it as a patriot for the United States, that is first and formost, but there's also a reality component that you have to seriously examine the offers that are presented."
Jean Lopez said while he has yet to discuss his contractual situation with USA Taekwondo, he may have to consider another offer beyond the one from Brazil.
"I am going to Qatar in November," Jean Lopez said.
