A driver who stopped at the scene of a two-vehicle accident was struck by a Ford Explorer and later died.
The first accident took place around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 610 South Loop near the Stella Link Road exit. The drivers of the two cars involved in the minor accident did not move the vehicles to the shoulder lane.
When the driver of another car parked behind the accident scene, a sport utility vehicle struck the back corner of the car driven by the person who stopped to help.
The driver ran away from the car into another lane, but the driver of an Explorer was not able to stop the SUV which struck the man as he ran across the freeway. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Another person involved in the five-vehicle accident was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
