HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Many Houston communities are getting ready to host block parties for Tuesday's annual "National Night Out".
Monday, Mayor Annise Parker announced the social event alongside local law enforcement at HPD headquarters.
The purpose: fight back against crime with people spending the evening outside, getting to know their neighbors to keep streets safer.
"National Night Out" begins Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. They encourage you to keep your porch light on if you're participating.
