Teen in critical condition after getting hit by METRO bus

A high school senior is in critical condition after she was struck by a METRO bus in southwest Houston.

The accident happened as the 15-year-old was walking across the street in the 12200 block of Bellaire, a METRO spokeswoman said.  She was walking from the treeline median, not at a crosswalk.  She managed to cross two lanes of traffic but was hit at the third.

She was conscious and breathing when she was taken to the hospital, an Alief ISD spokeswoman said.  She was initially taken to Ben Taub General Hospital but was rerouted to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

METRO Police are investigating.
