You don't need to know what Diego Salguero is singing about to understand food is his lifelong passion.
"I love to sing when I cook. For me it's really fun," said Salguero.
Each week in a community kitchen Diego combines local ingredients to make one of a kind empanadas. His business, Lucia's, is a taste of Argentina in every bite.
"Lucia is my mom. My mom is probably baking right now in Argentina. She's known for her pizzas, and my dad builds french bread ovens."
Diego moved here a decade ago and met his wife, Deborah. Their relationship evolved on a mutual respect and understanding Deborah would never have to cook.
"My background is I have a degree in organizational psychology and used to do training and team building," said Deborah Salguero.
Together they offer cooking classes where attention to detail is a must. Fresh out of the oven, the Salgueros bring their empanadas to the City Hall Farmers Market on Wednesdays and to the Urban Harvest at Eastside market on Saturdays.
Far from home, Diego stays connected to his roots with food and song.
