HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Playing with fire has landed an 11-year-old boy in the hospital with burns covering 50 percent of his body.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1540 block of Sunnydale, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.  A football game was underway at the nearby Grantham Academy.

Several residents in the area said four kids were in a ditch, burning paper with a lighter.  The kids were using rubbing alcohol to ignite the fire.  One of the kids got the alcohol on him and caught on fire.

The victim was initially taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital but was rerouted to Galveston's Shriners Hospital for Children.  The victim is in stable condition.

Investigators know the identities of the children involved.  One of the kids, a girl, burned her hands.

Aldine ISD Police and the Harris County Fire Marshall's Office are investigating.  Charges are not expected.
