First, New York City; then, Los Angeles; now, Houston. Starbucks Coffee Company brings its third profit sharing Community Store program to Gulfgate Center Mall on the east side of Houston.
The first two Community Store projects were opened in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan and the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles, Calif.
Profits from the Houston Community Store will be contributed to The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, a non-profit organization, for the purpose of bringing progress to the historic East End of Houston.
The Gulfgate Center Mall store was renovated and now includes an outdoor mural and artwork inside the cafe.
Starbucks Coffee Company executives and East End Chamber of Commerce president Frances Castañeda Dyess presented the plan for the store on Tuesday morning and the announcement was followed by a 1-hour East End Community Roundtable discussion.
